Sources and how this site works
RentClaro explains the government's "Register your rental property" service for landlords in England. It doesn't register you: only the official GOV.UK service can do that.
Where the facts come from
- Get ready: Register your rental property service (GOV.UK)
- Renters' Rights Act 2025 (legislation.gov.uk)
- The Private Rented Sector Database Regulations 2026 (draft, legislation.gov.uk)
- Price Index of Private Rents, UK: monthly price statistics (ONS), for council rents
- Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Band C or above, England and Wales (ONS), for council EPC figures
- Local Authority District to Region lookup (ONS)
- Renters' Rights Act 2025 offences and penalties (Bishop & Sewell, July 2026)
- Government confirms councils will use PRS database for enforcement (Property118, May 2026)
- Government fails to explain how landlord privacy will be protected (Property118, October 2026)
- Let Property Campaign: tell HMRC about undeclared rental income (GOV.UK)
- Census 2021 TS054: Tenure, by local authority (ONS via Nomis)
- Postcodes.io (ONS Postcode Directory)
How deadlines are matched to postcodes
Postcodes are matched to councils using the ONS Postcode Directory through Postcodes.io. Councils are matched to regions using the ONS lookup, and each region's dates come from GOV.UK. We don't store the postcodes you check unless you sign up for reminders.
When this was last checked
Dates, fees and penalties were last checked against GOV.UK on 20 October 2026. Guidance for letting agents is still to be published, and the government has said it will set out later what tenants can see on the register.
